Default 1973 Kawasaki Z-1 Model 900

During a recent truck trade-in I also purchased off the showroom floor a 1973 Kawasaki Z-1 Model 900.
It is almost factory perfect with less than 17,000 miles. I have the orginal owners manual and tool kit.
I have two questions:
(1) I am discovering that this is a very "classic" bike. I am a novice rider. I think that this bike should be in the hands of someone who appreciates the history, style, and power. I love riding it which I am doing daily. It has a current PA lic and inspection. What is the best way to go about selling it?
(2) Sometimes it "races" in first gear...only 1st gear...is this typical of the bike or is there something I can do to fix it?
Thanks for your help.

Default races?

If you mean "races" by the tach revs rapidly it sounds like the clutch is slipping. That could be as simple as a clutch adjustment or the clutch needs a rebuild. Some older bikes do have clutch cables in need of lube that will make it return slowly and hold the clutch partically disingaged.

If you want to sell it, the best ways are probably through ebay (if its really clean and all original, someone may be looking for just that bike) and the cycletrader magazines/website www.cycletrader.com . There are alot of "fake" auction sites on the internet that don't really get enough visitors to actually sell anything. Another thing you might try, is www.craigslist.org.

If you have one of the original Z-1 900's with the black engine in 100% stock condition the thing is gold. Collectors love 'em and not too many have survived to this point in pristine shape. Parts and not really availalbe for these so stock condition make them even more valuable.

To get the best price use eBay, start with a ridiculously low bid with a fairly high reserve. Post a photo of it here and let me have a look, I should be able to identify any non standard parts and give you an idea of it's value.

Question 1973 Kawasaki Z-1 Model 900

Hummmmm......
If I ever go 4-stroke instead of 2-stroke, this bike would be my absolute favourite!!

I would love to hear what happend to this KAW-900, and if it was indeed the black engine model!!?? But given this thread started a year and a half ago(!), it's not that likely to happen now I'm afraid.... (do surprice me, pleeeeeease! )
