Default adjusting mileage on speedometer

I just got a new speedometer and want to put tge original engine mileage on bike, only 40,000 miles. Ive heard of the drill trick but this is taking forevrr. Any other ideas and or solutions?

"If they aren't broken, don't fix it" we use to say. Keep the old one as proof with the bill of purchase of the new one and smile. Damaging the new odometer would be a shame. Perfection is a very expensive target. What is important is to keep records and have a fully operationnal bike.

I see that too. You'll replace the speedometer and the customer wants the old mileage to reflect on the new clock. If you have a speedometer that can be easily disassembled, think an old VDO on a BMW this can be accomplished! On some electronic speedometers a special electronic tool can be used to set the mileage to a preset number greater than the old. However, in the case of Japanese bikes usually not, as the makers of such things really don't want the mileage touched and make the disassembly very difficult.
