There are always tons of posts on here for riders complaining that they get stopped by Police for no reason...Police do not need a reason to stop you while driving or riding your vehicle. Police can stop you at anytime and demand to see your paper work.
I have been stopped dozens of times on my bike. Even before the Officer gets up to my bike, my helmet is off and i have my paper work out ready to give him. They run my plate and send me on my way. I for one am glad they stop bikes. there are way to many bikes that are being stolen lately and if it was my bike that was stolen and Police recovered it and made an arrest while finding it. Would make my day. So next time you get yanked over by Police for a paper check, try saying thanks...instead of yelling harassment. Ya never know one day it will be your bike gone...and you will be beggin the Cops to do random stops on bikes. |

I wouldn't mind a link to the "tons of posts" on this board complaining about harrassment.
:D Listen, the truth is, once in a while people post about that, and we all talk about it. And then that's it... I don't think it's a "ton of posts", and I don't think is "always". This board is not exactly anti-police. Some people here may be, but I think most of us are cool with police.... |

I don't see that a check to make sure that you have met the requirements for the operation of a motor vehicle as being a breach of your Charter rights, though I know that it has been fought many times in court on that basis. I wouldn't mind a link to it. http://lois.justice.gc.ca/en/const/index.html |

Look it up Police can stop to ensure licenced and insured. It's an accepted breach of the charter as the stop is minimal is non-intrusive and it is acceptable for the greater good of society. Just like a RIDE stop check. Looking up a piece of legislation and knowing the name of it is a lot simpler than knowing how to interpret it and knowing the case law around out. Good luck with your "Charter arguement" next time you get stopped. I'll try and find my annotated code and copy the case law. That way you'll be properly informed on the topic and might avoid a ticket. |

NO. A link to the part of the charter of rights that states, you're not supposed to be harassed by cops.
I was commenting on the orginal post, not yours... My point is that there are not that many posts bashing police... it's just one or two, but then everybody want to post and add their 2 cents... |
