1: do you guys leave the bike in the laneway or always put it in the garage or covered? 2: if you do leave it outside do you guys kind of lock it? our they easy to steel? 3: winter time for those of you who do store it do you store it in a warm area (heated garage or storage) or it doesnt matter? asking all these questions and might sound retarded but im new at this stuff so dont want to screw the bike up with perhaps to much sun, rain cold.......i know how the sun can harm leather and paint jobs.....and the winters in canada are cold so not sure. again thanks and hope i dont sound retarded lol cheers to all. |

I always keep it in my garage cause I have room. 2. I just use the built in lock (locks the handlebars) And yes if someone really wanted to steal it they could get some friend and pick it up and load it onto the back of a flatbed or a pickuptruck and drive away. 3. I keep it in the garage (not heated) But I winterize the bike first so it's fine in there. (I'm in Canada so it does certainly get damn cold sometimes) |

what do you do exactly when you say you winterize it? i might want to do that also.
thats what i wanted to know basicly if they did have some sort of security feature...i know they can have alarms as well but thats not in my case. So i guess that during the summer its cool for it to stay outside all the time if you dont have a garage? |

So i guess that during the summer its cool for it to stay outside all the time if you dont have a garage? Unless you are expecting hail or something it shouldn't be a problem, bikes are built to survive the elements, the sun might be a little hard on the paint but it shouldn't be a big problem. If a big rainstorm is coming or you do plan on leaving it only outside it really couldn't hurt to get a cover for it but the bike will survive outside. Winterizing your motorcycle is pretty simple, disconect the battery, stabalize the fuel, clean it (if you want), check the tire pressure (not too full or empty) etc here's a link http://www.kanetix.ca/ic_moto_info_moto_articles_02 really just google winterizing motorcycle and you should get lots of hits Also get the user manual for your bike, very useful little book it is. |

1. I have a rented garage within walking distance and it stays there in potential bad weather, otherwise if its gonna be nice a few days she stays parked right in front of the apartment for easy access.
2. When its in front of the apartment I do the steering lock, not foolproof for 2 or 3 guys with a pickup truck and an attitude, but I'm in a low crime small town and don't worry about it too much. 3. It'll stay in said rented garage, most likely with the battery out and the carbs drained for minimum fuss on getting it fired back up next season. |

1. Mine sits in my driveway, I plan on getting a cover, but haven't yet. If there is a bad storm coming, then it goes in my parents garage (I don't have one and they live next door)
2. I also just lock the forks. 3. I don't know yet, I have only had it a month :) but I plan on winterizing it (fuel stabilizer, battery out and on an automatic trickle charger), and hopefully by winter I will have a stand to set it on so the tires are off the floor just a bit (helps prevent flat spots over time) and FYI pints, there is no such thing as a stupid question, except for one that is unasked. |

I keep mine inside, although it does get ridden almost every day. Rain etc are not a problem if you dry it off after it has got wet and yes they are very easily nickable even with every security feature known to man.

I keep my bike inside year round. When I ride to work, I park it is a spot that has shade virtually all day. When rain is apparent, I cover the bike (at work).
By the way, when your bike is being stored for the winter, if you have a bike jack, jack the bike up and let out about 1/2 the air in the tires. This prevents having flat spots on the tire from sitting too long CD |

thanks for all the info guys, really apreciate all the advise. one last thing when you jack up the bike im assuming that i raise it just a bit ? does the stand still hold the bike balanced ?
Oh Ya, thanks Goliath for making me feel a little less dumb :) |
