Which Style Of Bike Gets The Best MPG?

I know the 250cc bikes made by susuki, honda, kawasaki, and yamaha all get like 60-70 mpg. Is good gas mileage just limited to these small cruisers or are there others that get close to this, such as dual-sports maybe? I know power/weight ratios, gearing, and driving habits can make a big difference.

My Yamaha XJ600 got as high as 57 mpg for me.

Ha Ha, yeah I should've said motorcycle.

While I usually get around 55 MPG, I have gotten as high as 62 MPG on my KLR650. It requires going no faster than 55 MPH, and being VERY sedate with the throttle. I would imagine a smaller dual-sport would get even better mileage.

My Virago 250 is getting between 83 and 88 mpg every 100 miles I ride.

Uh ... wouldn't the lighter bike/smaller engine gets better mpg? Same concept with cars? I'd say sport bikes get higher mileage but who drives economically on a sport bike? :)

With cars I think it can vary a lot more. My 01 Camaro Z28(V gets the same gas mileage as my cousins 99 Honda Prelude(I4). I think my Z28 only weighs a few hundred pounds more. I guess it is a lot simpler with motorcycles though, since the engine is probably 60% of the weight.:)

Just as the efficiency of big motors becomes less due to their sheer size, a smaller motor also becomes less efficient due to the amount of load put on it. With cars, trucks, or motorcycles, if the size and power of the motor is balance with the size and weight of the vehicle, there is an operational peak of efficiency.

Thats why a 6 cylinder midsize can get better mileage than the same vehicle with a 4 cylinder. The power to weight ratio is more closely balanced with the 6 cylinder.

Most of your alls 750 to 1500 get better mileage than my 550. That's simply because that 550 is tired of pushing around my fat a$$!!

I can squeeze 60mpg out of my Ninja 500 but ridden normally I get something like 52mpg. If I ride like an ******* it can drop into the 40s.
