Default title question

so say I go buy a bike from a personal owner, and he hands over the signed title, keys, and registration. Do I only have to take the signed copy of the title to the DMV, or does he have to come along as well? and how do you go about switching over registration, is that DMV as well? Sorry, just kind of having a brain fart, could have something to do with never owning a motorcycle or something. I sold my boat, and the notary told him to take the title to the dmv, and the registration somewhere... i wasnt really listening, I was putting the check in my wallet haha. I would appreciate any help on this matter. Thanks

I don't know about your state but here, everything (title transfer, registration & license plate) can be done by almost any notary or AAA office. Usually, they require all parties to be present because the signatures have to be witnessed by the Notary. You may have to pay state sales tax on the bike, at some point during the transaction.

well here in WA state, you just take the title from the seller which is signed by him, he writes the sell price and the odometer reading and take it to the DMV. they will give you the registration printout in your name.. and you will get the title in 2-3 weeks (in your name).

also you pay the taxes on the buy price.

NY - take the signed title together with an avidavit of sale (some dmv form) to the DMV and they will send a new title in your name to you. Make sure that there is no leanholder on the title and if there is make sure you bring a lean release to the dmv with you so the new title does not have it on there.
the license plates belong to the previous owner and can not be transfered! You need to register the bike when youre at the DMV and make sure you bring proof of insurance (in NY this has to have a scanable barcode in it)

any more qs? let me know

that is because baby pigeons can never fly.. they learn flying pretty late when they are almost the size of an actual pigeon .. so when they go out and fly .. we think they are actual pigeons and not the newbie pigeons and so we never see a baby pigeon :D

i know this coz i have actually seen a pigeon grow and fly .. from the egg.. i had a pigeon nest in my garage... aah but pigeon droppings stinks.

The insurance is just to register the bike, I believe. You should be able to do just the title transfer so that you legally own the bike. Then come spring you'll have to go back and get it insured and registered.

I'll believe they exist when I see the video evidence!!! :D

And, a little more on topic, in WA they don't require you to show proof of insurance in order to register any motor vehicle. That goes for the title transfer too. Check your DMV and see what they require if you're just going to store it until spring. (provided of course, that you're going to haul it home.)
