Default Why are sportbikes an urban phenomenon?

When we travelled across the US, almost all the motorcyclists on the roads were cruisers, and we only saw sportbikes when we reached the larger city centres. Anyone care to speculate why this is?

Because squids on sportbikes like to show off to people in the city, or they just lack the capability of taking a corner above 10 kmh

Wouldnt a sport bike be able to corner far better then a crusier?

I meant "they" as in squids who like to pose instead of actually riding the damn bike.

Because the one thing Harley Davidson does correctly is getting their brand out. They are a marketing machine and all over the US. Ask most people in the US to draw or describe a motorcycle and you'll probably get a chopper. Jap imports get a foot-hold in urban areas where the density can support them (as they're less popular).

A lot of people find SS's uncomfortable for longer rides (not me!).

Also, Americans are extremely patriotic. If there was an American SS other than Buell (that performed with the big4, they'd have a better chance).

I was in Michigan last weekend for a couple of days, and saw dozens of cruisers, almost all Harleys. I saw ONE sportbike, a ZX-7 and it was parked at the end of a driveway for sale. :? I know the ratio isn't that bad, but bike spotting got fairly monotonous after a while.

The american population now considers xxl sizes to be the average. Sport bike riders tend to be more fit and smaller framed individuals, hence the urban phenomenon.

Actually noticed many sportbike riders in California, majority seems health concious there

Nevertheless a real good question
