![]() ![]() I'm a recent collector of 1970s Yamaha RDs. I have one 1974 RD200, one 1972 YR5 - 350, two 1974 RD350s and one 1976 RD400. I bought all five bikes as a sort of collection. The RD200 is in excellent shape, the two 350s are in good shape, the R5 fair, and the RD400 was not so good shape but well on it's way to being a nice ride. I'm presently restoring the bike plus making numerous performance enhancements such as expansion chamber, carburetor rebuild and modification, RZ350 intake manifolds, Y- boot/K&N filter, cross over tube, YZ125 reeds, 65 mm RZ350 pistons, electronic ignition conversion, complete re-paint including powder coated wheels, new wheel bearings, rebuilt brake calipers, new SS brake lines. The list goes on.... I watched an old biker movie last night, "Cycle South". It was shot in the late '60s. In it, three guys start on a motorcycle journey from Colorado to Panama riding three British looking thumpers. Couldn't identify them but they looked like early to mid '60s Triumph Trophys or BSA 500 singles. Soon one of the bikes break down so they trade all three in for three Kawasaki 1968 or 1969, 175cc F3s. They commented that the F3s were better performing bikes despite their comparative deficiency in displacement. As the movie went, they rode those little Kaws all the way to Panama without a hitch. Who in their right mind would try that nowadays? So, that's how I found this site. I wanted to know what kind of Kawasakis they used. Looks like lots of good info. here. I did notice however that the pictures available for the RD200 are not the same as my 1974 RD200. Am I allowed to post pics of my RD200? What's the process? I have to take the pictures first. The bike is in my garage and needs to be dusted off and cleaned up a bit. Will do when I'm finished. I was wondering how to put the pics in with the Cycle Chaos "old bikes" files. |

Hey guys, I just picked up 2 1974 RD200s as a matching set. They belonged to a minister couple in Michigan, and they need some tender lovin'. The gentleman I bought them off of said they are ready to ride, once the carburetors are put back together. He is a mechanic, and said he took them apart and cleaned them himself, but hasn't had the time to put them back together. Can anyone tell me what I might be looking at? I don't know the first thing about Bike mechanics, and would honestly be learning on these two lovelies. I don't want to injure them in any way, so I'll be taking them to a shop first. Before that, I'd like to know what I'm getting myself into. I do, however have a couple of gear-head buddies, but they just don't have the time now. Can someone please give me some good news??
