Would it be running too rich, are you leaving the gas tap on purge? When I cleaned my carbs I just used a ruller for the mesurements for the floats and kept note on how many turns with all the adjsutment screws. I have noooo clue what they are suppose to be. One time there was dirt in the gas tank and it caused fuel to spray out beyond belief. It doesn't leak gas anymore-just the electrical problems surge. My gs850 smokes when u hit the throttle, I think because it needs new piston rings.

Default Had the same problem on mine.

Hey man hows it going. I had the same problem on mine. Its not your carbs its the fuel cock. The vaccumm diaphram has a hole in it. You need to replace the fuel cock assembly. THe vaccumm tube the pumps the diaphram is pulling fuel straight into the engine. Replase that assembly and probplem solved.

That sounds about right. My dad had a similar issue with his and what you described seemed to fix the issue.
