Default BMW R1200 GS vs. BMW R1200 GS Adventure

At bmwmotorcycles.c you can get a comparison side by side for the adventure or the standard GS1200. The reason I bought the Adventure is that it has more seat height and cushion, more weight allowed, protection bars
and a large fuel tank.

Default BMW R1200 GS vs. BMW R1200 GS Adventure

Can someone tell me the major differences between the R1200 GS and the R1200 GS Adventure?

Also, what would be the ideal use for each bike? (Why did BMW create two of these?)

The GS cost less and the GSA cost more.

It's just marketing. The GSA has larger tank and more travel in it's supsension. It also weighs 60 lb more. There is list of other stuff too.

They are both "Round the World Adventure" bikes. The GSA being more "Adventure".:) Personally, I would go with the lighter bike. Which I did.:D

The Adventure comes with engine protection bars, extra lighting, and a larger gas tank for long range riding in the boonies. It also has, as North pointed out, more travel in the suspension.

I went with the Adventure and love it.

I just swapped out my GS 4 GSA, had GS for 4 yrs. great bike but i love the GSA more, better handling and all of the above differences plus better wind protection, I recommend both bikes but preference has togo 2 GSA.

Most of the difference have already been mentioned. I went with the GSA because I wanted more range, knew I was going to add lights and a bar. By the time I got that stuff aftermarket I would have probably spent close to, if not more, than what the GSA cost me.
