I have been looking at getting a bike for some time now. I have always liked BMWs and have owned many BMW cars. I was in at my local bike dealer and they have a 2005 boxer cup replica with 3k on it. Am I crazy buying this for my first bike? I am a very carfull person (27 with family) and am over my wild years in life. I have ridden my brothers 650fs several times but that is my only experiance. can I slowly learn to ride on this bike or will I kill myself?
Thanks |

Take the MSF course. Start small, work your way up. You can always get another bike, but not another life. Do what you want, of course, but just from experience.
I started with a Suzuki GN125. Quickly got a GS550, then a GPz, then my Beemer. I know I would've gotten into a lot of trouble if I got the Beemer first. Again, do as you wish, but DO take the MSF course!:D |

Are you crazy!!! Don't mean any disrespect. Know how high the seat is? Without any experience, not something I would get. Looks gorgeous, by the way I have a 2005. A lot of bike to handle unless your over 6ft. Good luck to what ever you get, ride safe

I've been riding for 30+ years and have had my share of Jap bikes and 2 Harleys.
I'm currently looking at a used BMW Boxer Cup Replika. Can anyone tell me what the actual seat height is with load on it? I had a 1999 Honda Blackbird. With a seat height of 31.9 inches it was pretty tall for me but I was able to manage. I'm 5'8" tall and I'm wondering if the Boxer Cup is too tall for me, or can the seat height be adjusted? Dave |

In response to jonkel8's original question...the R1100S is a lot of bike for a beginner. I've been riding for approximately twenty years and have had my R1100S for four years. These bikes are really fast and I find myself having to focus just to hang on when I get on the throttle. May I suggest something in the 750cc range to start with and then a rocket after a few years of riding experience and mistakes? I'm not trying to preach or scare you away from an admittedly sexy bike but I'd recommend something a little tamer.

It is a heavy bike and a very powerful heavy bike, probably not the best to learn on. I suggest buying the Boxer Cup Replica now and also getting a used Ninja 650 or something else that won't hardly cost anything. That way you can learn on the small bike and get used to riding but you don't have to worry about anyone else nabbing that gem of a boxer out from under your nose.

I am not sure what nitro methane you put in the tank but a boxer cup aint super powerful..............
They are extremely easy and forgiving to ride and IMHO dont pose a problem as a first bike??? Specially if you are mature......... http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj301/PiJiL/2005-BMW-R1100S-BoxerCupReplika.jpg |

It's not a Busa-beater, but it does merit respect, maturity, and self-control on the part of the driver.
It's also very stable. The only thing I'd really be worried about in terms of starting out on it is the weight. It takes a bit of a firm hand on the controls to get it to go where you want. Which can scare some people. But I love my R1100S. |
