Default Need advice for Buell dirt track project.?

I'm converting one of my Buell X1 Lightnings into a dirt tracker similar to the 883 dirt trackers the AMA ran in pro competition for local amateur events. My question is...... How many cranking amps do I need to run just the starter, ignition and fuel pump. Or if I were to remove the starter alltogether which requires more amps..... how much do I need to just run the ignition and fuell pump. The goal of course is to run as small a battery as possible to save weight. Thanks for advice!

Every bike I've owned has run just fine without any battery at all. The magneto (permanent-magnet alternator) puts out enough juice to run everything. Why don't you pull one of the battery wires off the battery when the bike is running at idle and see what happens? If it works, as it should, you can start the bike by kick or bump, or use the starter with external battery cables.
