Exclamation 1973 Honda CL450 DOHC HELP WANTED

Hey Guys im new to the forum and thought this would be a good place to get some help on my new bike. Ive always loved mid 70's Hondas so for my 1st bike I just bought a 1973 Honda CL450. It is in solid shape cosmetically and the motor is solid, it has a clean tank (no fuel) fresh spark plugs, and a new battery. The Issue is that I think the bike was tipped over because its missing a side marker light and the shifter is slightly bent which leads to my next problem. The Bike seems like its not catching its gears so I cant get it to shift into neutral to start it. The motor turns free and compression is there but the kid I bought it from drained the oil and gas see he could open the bike up to see what the issue is. Should i throw some oil back in to keep the motor from getting stuck? Any help or insight would be great help or just any information at all would be great. Thanks

Insofar as oil, personally I would fill it, even if it is cheap oil....just keeping the engine wet will prevent rusting from condensation. Tag the engine as a note "to self", cheap oil, do not run.

I usually pick up the Canadian Tire brand, 10W40.... Just for storage and engine flushing. I do not run shit oil in anything.

I am sure there is something at your local Atuo Center, possibly Walmart.
