Default 1982 Honda CB650 Oil Filter Bolt

I am having trouble with getting the bolt on my oil filter off. If this bolt a standard rotating bolt, or does it need turned clockwise to get it out? Also any other ideas on how to get this sucker out? I used my dremmel and put a slit in the bolt so I can use my hurken flat head screw driver, but before I start that I would like to know the direction to turn for loosening.

Thanks,

Cory

Cory,
That should be a standard rotating bolt.
There have been many times when I've tried to loosen a blot like this and it was seemingly frozen in place.
One day, out of sheer frustration, I smacked the top of a bolt with a hard plastic hammer and all of a sudden I could almost loosen it by hand!
It's my understanding that the steel bolt and the aluminum block somehow bond because of the heat and expansion differences in the metal.
Never-the-less, try it...

Yeah I have tapped it, heated it. Tried to put blaster on it. The thing just wont come out! I will keep trying someday. The bolt will come out, hopefully. How bad is it keep using the oil filter over and over?

Cory,
It's horrible to keep using the same filter. Somehow you've go to get the bolt out. The best bet is still to hit the end on the bolt. I realize you said you did that but that's really the only way to expect it to come loose. Now, by tapping I don't mean just a little tap-tap-tap. I mean for you to hit it about half as hard as you'd hit a 16 penny nail driving it in a 2 x 4. If the hard plastic hammer doesn't work, use a ball peen hammer first with a block of wood on the head of the screw. If that doesn't do it, hit the head of the screw directly.

I will keep trying. I wasn't planning on using the filter over and over. I was mostly wondering about the guy who owned the bike before me, if he had been using it and how bad that could be.

Cory

I spent about an hour hitting and trying to turn. Back to hitting.

It'll come out. I don't remember having a problem with mine... Do you have an impact gun? :-) Those things are wonderful. You can always put a pipe on your wrench and really get some leverage.

I can't use an impact gun or wrench. The PO before me striped the crap out of the bolt. I had to use my dremmel and cut a gap in the bolt so I could use a huge screw driver. Vise grips don't even stay on this stripped bugger.

For now I will keep hammering the sucker and working at it. I have sorked about 2 hours on it now, with out a budge. Oh well, that is the fun of motorcycles I guess.

Well if you do manage to get it out and it is a steel bolt in an aluminum block for heavens sake when you put it back in (or a replacement as it sounds fubared) be SURE to use some anti-seize on the tread so this wont happen next time!!!
