Do I need a motorcycle license in order to purchase a new motorcycle?

I am getting ready to purchase a new Honda motorcycle but have not yet taken the test for my motorcyle license. Will the dealer allow me to proceed with the purchase with out one? I am in California if this makes a difference.

IN TX, you can buy one without a motocyclist endorsement on your license.Don't forget to take the MSF class if you have not done so already. ------
