Default How do I remove and clean my Centrifugal Oil Filter on my '74 Honda CB200 Motorcycle?

How do I remove and clean my Centrifugal Oil Filter on my'74 Honda CB200 Motorcycle? I had to take the clutch cover to access the filter and it seems like I need a special tool to take the oil filter cap off so that I may clean it out. Please help! It looks something similar to this thing:http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y93.../cb160/015.jpg

Default well well well

seems we've been stuck in the same place My CB200 is a '75. - I'd love to hear an update if you've managed to get it off...

The recessed screw in the center had been shredded, so I drilled it out, but the filter cap won't come off. The manual says to pull it out with pliers, but it won't budge. In fact I snapped off most of one of the two tabs trying to do just that. The only cap I've seen on e-bay has a broken tab as well, and the previous owner of my bike had written in his manual only one thing, perhaps in desperation, on the page about cleaning out the filter "How do I get this thing off?" These, - and your last and aging post - I fear, are not good signs.

I've seen examples of tools for this purpose, but haven't any, and the clutch hub spanner wrench attachments (Motion Pro - Oil Filter & Clutch Hub Spanner For Honda) appear ill-fitted and to small judging by the 3/8" socket hole, so I haven't gone down that road yet.

Any luck?

Default How to remove the oil filter cap on a Honda centrifugal filter

I have a CL360. Should be pretty similar. If there's a metal spring, remove that first by pinching the ends together with needlenose pliers and pulling it out. Jimmy the cap off with a flathead screwdriver through the filter holes by going around the circumference. It should pop off. But be careful not to shred the gasket.
