I just adopted this bike as free to a good home. She's been garage kept for 22 years and while in solid shape she needs a touch up here and there. The kickstart moves as it should so the pistons are free, but the carb is gunked and gummed. Only one of her problems.
I've been to Haynes, Clymer, E-Bay, and Craigslist. Does any one know where I can get a manual for this bike? I've seen manuals for 750's but not 1976. There are manuals for 1976 models, but not the 750.

Mornin' Charliek and welcome to the forum.

Hmm, can see you are right about the manual - my Haynes goes back to 1980 and up to 1991 on the Kawasaki 750 Four (I formally had a 1980 KZ750-E1 DOHC Four). Not tryin' to be a smarty Partner but are you 100% sure what you have IS a "1976 Kawi 750 Four"? Far as I can tell before 1980 the 750-4 was a 650-4 introduced in 1977. Now I am seeing the KZ750-B1 TWIN came out in 1976.... maybe this IS what were talking about?! Anyways, check out the folks at www.z1enterprises.com for the right info and tell em' "LowRiderGhost from the Black Hills" sent you (assuming they even remember me?)! Good luck on this.

As a technical trouble shooter in my business life, I've seen some of the squirrely things people do so I think it was a valid question. "Coulda sworn I had it plugged in!" I questioned Haynes and got no answer. I sent the VIN and Pix to Clymer and Jerry said "sounds like a fun project. Wish we could help."
I finally said "Tahell withit!" I bought the 900 for my year and the 1980 for the 750. I'll take what ever looks familiar!

Heh-heh, I hear ya' Partner! My primary job around this joint is as a 'Customer Service Rep' (including but not limited to taking out the gawd dang Trash everyday too! ). I think assuming (?!?) I survive long enough, I'll be writing a book about it all someday. Meanwhile my favorite 'comments recd' on the phone remains: " I haven't received my Order Receipt and/or Order Shipment Notification - what's my order status"?! The FIRST return question out of my mouth is: "Have you checked your email"?! I swear 99.9% of the time, as the Biker Gwads are my witness the response is "No, I haven't checked my email for a couple weeks"?! It's all I can do to keep from falling off the darn PC chair LAUGHING and rolling around the floor - Time After TIME! Ah well, it's the little funny things that keep us ALL sane (and/or drive us INsane?!)! Nuff' said. Meanwhile, BACK to the Madness...

I wasn't aware Kawasaki made a 4 cylinder 750 in 1976. I know they made a 900 4 cylinder and a twin 750 but not a 4 cylinder. Have you got a picture of this bike?

I have pix, but have been unable to post them. I even tried to make one my avatar but I'm not allowed.

In 1976 Kawasaki made the KZ650 which was a 4 cylinder that had a 4-2 exhaust. The KZ750 B1 was a twin and then of coarse there was the KZ900 which was also a 4 cylinder but the only one with a 4-4 exhaust as shown. I think the buckhorn bars, seat, rack and missing side cover make things tough in determining what it is from the picture as they were not OEM for the time.

I think that you're on the right track with a mix of manuals! Sounds like you're ready for the game. I had a 1982 KZ750M CSR (twin) and the book I got from Clymer had almost everything for the 4 cylinder and didn't have crap for the 2 cylinder! But it had enough for a guy to figure his way around things! :D

Forgot! Take digital pics as you work - they can be a blessing when you go to put stuff back together with a less than perfect diagram!
