Default 1984 Suzuki GS400S

Hey guys,

I recently bought a GS400S in decent shape (no frame damage, but some of the plastics are cracked) for $800, and I hope it was a good deal. However, I'm starting to run into some problems with it.

So, newly today the speedometer and tachometer are no longer working. I don't know what is wrong, so any help here would be appreciated. If you can give me some ideas on what I could do to fix it, that would be great.

Also, give me your idea on whether you think it was a good deal or not. My parents aren't too sure, but I don't think it was that bad.

Thanks a lot.

I have a 1984 gs400s. It was running, now I have an ignition problem. Cannot find much info on this bike. The Haynes manual I have gives very little inf although it does mention the model. The wire diagrams don't list the 400s and I am assuming the 400's are wired much the same although there are some differences in the various 400's that they do show. I would like to find a parts manual for this bike but they seem scarce also.I think we may have an orphan here.

Have you checked the cables for the tach and speedo. the tach cable goes from the tach to the engine cyl head area and the speedo goes from the speedometer to the front wheel hub. The housing my just be loose or you may have a broken cable. If they were working ok before it is unlikely that both cables broke unless the bike has sat for a long time and the cables were dry and seized.
