Hello,
Bike: 2007 Suzuki Bandit (aka GSF 650) ABS This is my first bike. I purchased it in 2008 (so i've had it for less than 5 months) and it has less than 2000km (1250 miles) on it. Here are a few concerns I have about the bike. First of all the fuel consumption is quite high. I am getting about 35-38mpg on average (I am doing a combination of city and highway driving, and I never press full throttle or go over 75mph) Is this normal for the bike? It seems high to me compared to some other bikes. What do you think? Secondly, it feels like the bike revs to high. When in 6th gear, at 65mph I will be at 5000 RPM and at 75mph at around 7000 RPM and for 85mph almost 9000 RPM (The max RPM of the bike is about 13'000. ) Is this too high? Is there something wrong with my bike? What is the nature of the problem? ANY help would be really appreciated, as I am new to this and don't know much. Thank You |

Are you sure that you are hitting top gear? Based on fuel and RPMs....my 1200 consisently knocks dowm 40 City - 48 hwy. I run a I-4 w/5 speed and 4250 RPM is around 80 MPH; 5k RPM is around 90 MPH. Doesn't your's have a 6 speed? You should be getting something in the low to mid 50 MPG

I have a '97 Bandit 1200 I run City and highway and get about 45 to 50 depending on how I ride. My experience is the same as imgumby's at 3000 rpm's I'm doing 55.
These are the ratios for the '07 650, the '97 600, and the '97 1200 for camparison. 2007 650 ratio Primary Drive Ratio 1.700(85/50) Final Drive Ratio 3.200(48/15) GS600 has Primary Reduction ratio of 1.744 (75/43) top gear ratio of 3.200 (48/15) 1200 has Primary reduction ratio of 1.565 (72/46) top gear ratio of 3.000 (45/15) The top ratio is the same as the '97 it does not seem like you are hitting top gear. In the top gear, the RPMs would be a little higher for the 600/650 than for the 1200 at a given speed but they should not be that much higher. edited to add 2007 drive ratios |

Im with Charlene on this one,,,im on my 6th bike,,,3rd Bandit and the consumption is a bit of a mystery. I swapped an 07 Bandit for a 57 in early July 09, bit of a change in engine, cooling sys etc but I immediately noticed about a 30% increase in my fuel consumption.
Not riding any differently and no choke to leave open (bit of an old habit!!) On further investigation,,,tank was getting to reserve and flashing, ride for some distance, still flashing and then only take £13 to fill (at time of writing, its an average of a £1 a litre)Last instance,,,I hit "reserve" rode for a further 40 miles, then still only took £16 to fill....Manuals I have state a 20ltr tank with 4.5ltr reserve, other articles say a 19ltr tank, with same reserve but still doesnt add up... Is the consumption wrong or the guage???? I put mine back in to have it checked,, picking it up today so will be closely watching my guage and amounts to fill up.......Watch This Space!!!
