Default How do I adjust or maintain points on TS 185

I have no spark on my Ts 185 and members of this forum advised me to sand points. I took off the flywheel cover and can't find the points. Do you have tor pull the flywheel? There are two holes on it that corespond to screws underneath but I can't see any points under the holes even when I rotate it all the way around. Any advise. Thanks DAve

first start at your coil and follow the wires back to the points. On most bikes that had points they were drivin off the cam so you should be looking for a cover on the side at the top of the head. The best thing you can do is buy a book for your bike and a set of feeler gauges so when you put it back together everything is within spec. Once you locate the points one of the two screws will be in a slotted hole by loosening this screw and moving the play in the slot is your adjustment.

I might add that you can test the spark plug after you take it out by hooking the wire back to it, pushing it against the head to ground it, and running the starter. You should see a blue spark at the fire end of the plug. If you're checking spark, you should start with your plug, then go to the points, and after that, check the coil. Going the other way might cost you money on parts that you don't need to spend.

A TS185 has an electronic cdi box, not points. Its probably just the plug. What year is it. I had a '72 model. Alway got a kick out of the huge taillight on a woods bike. One ride and it's gone.

I don't know what year your bike is but if it is a 72 or after it has a pointless ignition. A TS 125 did have points. I had both. The 125 was a 71 model. They probably went to an electronic ignition on it as well but don't know what year that would have been. I am assuming you are talking about a Suzuki.
