Default What damage can a jump start do to a bike

I put a 55 amp 12v battery charger/ jumpstart on my bike for about 5-10 mins and now it wont run right. What could I have done to it? The battery holds a charge and the bike tries to crank but wont run or will die out very easily. It ran perfect the day before and the reason the battery was dead was my fault, I left the lights on. Where do I start PLEASE HELP.

2006 Suzuki Katana 600

THANK YOU

Sounds like you might have cooked the battery. Try with a new one, start the bike and see how it runs. Hopefully you didnt fry anything else.

So even if the battery will still hold a charge it might be the problem?

I have used those charger/starters a couple times and never had a problem. If you are selecting the "start" function don't leave the battery connected very long, it should start up immediately with a motorcycle battery being so small. The battery meter is so crappy on those chargers as well, take it to autozone and have them check it out for you, chances are the battery is bad and the meter just sucks. My meter read full on three different batterys that needed to be replaced.

Either the battery was already shot or you cooked it. Batteries cannot handle that much current for very long. Just long enough for you to hook up the charger and turn it over. If you want to actually charge the battery over a few hours, there should be a 2 amp setting or so.

Battery. Or, voltage regulator.

Where is my voltage regulator located or what will it look like? How do I know if it's good.

Check voltage. In the system. And at different revs. Bike Bandit should show a parts diagram to show where it's located. May also be wring or connections.
I guess you should have started with fuses, though. Can I assume you did that?
If not, check fuses, and there may be an in line fuse. Try also your library which may have the repair manual, which will show you all the parts, and outline repair procedures.
It takes tools, and a book, and time to fix it yourself, but gives far greater satisfaction in doing it, costs less (maybe) and then you know what to look for next time there is a problem.

Yes, I have checked all fuses I am awear of. The bike is very hard to start, as a matter of fact I don't think it has really started since I first messed it up. I'm not an expert but it seems that the spark is not very strong on the spark plug. I took out my spark plugs one by one, grounded them, plugged them up and attempted starting the bike. Two of them had a very small spark inside the plug (not where it should be) and the other two had no spark I could see, but there seemed to be a very small amount of smoke or fumes comming from the two plugs so I believe they is generating some heat. They also seemed to be damp or wet (gas) when I took them out.

Bad spark could be bad coil.
Your main ignition fuse should plug into the top of your relay.
Gap the plugs.
Damp or wet would follow from unburned gas, that is, not running.
The libraries have the older Katana book up to 2005 model. But it may be the same.
Maybe try to get somebody with a volt meter to test it. I have a neighbor who is very good with electronics and electrics (it's not my best area), and I got him to test for 5 minutes more than once and he gave me a diagnosis immediately.
Bad connection. Burner out fuse holder. Bad voltage regulator.
Get the battery out, put it on the trickle charger, overnight, then test it in the morning. If it's burned it might no longer hold the charge.
You can try a Suzuki shop. My guess would be $150 up to 300 or 400. Includes parts.
It is a lot more rewarding to figure it out yourself, or with the help of a neighbor or another biker.
I have a biker neighbor so he's a big help sometimes.
