The f p s (feet per sec) on any spring rifle is not just dependent on the spring, the weight of the pellet is also crucial. ie a heavy pellet would have a lower f p s than a lighter one. airguns are limited by law to a power of 12 foot pounds.All 22 air rifles at the maximum allowed power would give an f p s of between 500 to 650 depending on pellet weight and power output. 177 calibre could have speeds up to 850 f p s due to much lighter pellet.
