Which is faster, a Ducati Monster 620 or Harley Sportster 1200?

Fast vs. Quick, I didn't realize there was a difference. Top end vs. 0-60/100I suppose. I appreciate evryone's answers. This is just something I've wonderedabout in regards to a friends bike, the Harley. Thanks.

Quicker? Ducati. Faster? Still Ducati. Sorry, but I sense you were rooting for the Harley. They are totally different motorcycles. Both are fun though, and more than fast enough to kill you.

A 620 Duke will out perform the Harley in every way but then a Harley isn't about that. Is it?

haven't ridden a monster but i would assume it would be quicker... and i'm a fan of the sporty, but they are apples and orangesi would bet the sporty would jump it for the 1st 100 feet and then it would be all over

Ducati. With minimal tuning the sporty will run but not as sent from the factory.

Look at the torque figures and you will se a definite nod to the old Milwaukee Iron (70 something versus 50 something). Horsepower does not a quarter mile make. It is a lot of fun to see Sporties pull away from sportikes for the first eighth mile. Top end will go to the Duck, as well as braking, handling, and cool steel trellis frame.John

The 620 never made anywhere close to 83 stock. My 695 is a far more powerful motor, I have a full Termi exhaust, open airbox with high flow filter and an Ducati Performance ECU. I probably am still not over 80hp. The weight is the big issue here and where are you running. The Duc is great because of it's light weight. I'n a 1/8 mile drag race the H-D may well win the drag race with more displacement and torque. Stretch the race out a little or throw in a corner and the Duc wins hands down. The 620 is a pretty gutless motor though.

Any motor from the 695 and up though would give any Sporty a run, you get to the 1000cc Duc motor and even the 2 valve motors will trounce any H-D including the V-Rod.
