You use precisely what the manufacturer recommends. You have a very unique desmodramic valve train that enables your engine to turn higher RPM than any other engine in the world. For that you need to use exactly what the manufacturer recommends. My guess is they recommend a diester synthetic.

well, the monster has an L-twin..it certainly does not rev higher than any motor in the world...LOL....any inline 4 is going to have a much higher redline than an L-twin. Your monster probably redlines well below 10 grand... a lot of I-4's redline around 13.5k, so...I don't know what pilgrim is thinking, I think he's just being a sensationalist. any way, how often you change your oil is more important than what type of oil you use, so if you use an oil that is half the price, but change it twice as often, you'll be better off. Go with what you can afford and change it as often as possible. It would be important to run what the manufacturer suggests if the bike were under warranty, but we're not exactly talking about a new bike. I run Castrol GTX 20w-50w in the spring and summer and GTX 10w-40w in the fall and winter, and change it every 3 months.
