Frame says '71 but members pics say otherwise

This is a discussion on Frame says '71 but members pics say otherwise within the CBR forums, part of the Honda category; I'm confused... the frame serial says 10/71 mfg. date, but it's definitely a '72. The images of '71's don't look ...

Default Frame says '71 but members pics say otherwise

I'm confused... the frame serial says 10/71 mfg. date, but it's definitely a '72. The images of '71's don't look like my bike one bit. The image is the EXACT bike I just inherited after my Grandfather who passed unfortunately. The image is an image I got off of here, but mine is a twin nonetheless.
It has been garage kept since new and hasn't been ridden in 15 years. 2,387 original miles. After tinkering with it, I've found that the tank leaks right around the petcock, rusted! I'm very mechanically inclined, so this doesn't scare me in the least. I was wondering if someone here on the forums could point me in the right direction as to where to get the tank fixed. Thank you.

Dont'worry about the frame date. It simply means it was manufactured in 10/71 for the 72 model year. Buy a copy of Walnecks Classic Cycle which has ads for businesses that repair gas tanks. Besides you will enjoy the read.
