Honda GL1200 starter replacement?

How difficult is this + much will this cost (in shop hrs).Is this beyond level of DIY (needs special and expensive tools, a special"touch", etc).This is a wing that I'm looking at so - no manual and the owner seems definite about it being starter (already replaced relay).Good job on link to Saunders site (had heard there was a workaround), but the quy got LUCKY with not dropping the sprocket and belt.I also have heard that u can drill&tap a bolt to hold sprocket.This is a wing that I'm looking at so - no manual and the owner seems definite about it being starter (already replaced relay).Good job on link to Saunders site (had heard there was a workaround), but the quy got LUCKY with not dropping the sprocket and belt.***I also have heard that u can drill&tap a bolt to hold sprocket? any details on this part?***

Not sure if the 1200 is similar to the 1000/1100 or not. On those if you leave the bike on the side stand the sprocket will stay pretty much in position. I wouldn't drill a hole, thats just another place for a possible leak. You can download manuals free at goldwingdocs.com.
