Anyone ridden a 07 or 08 Yamaha R6?

I'm thinking about getting a middle class bike, but not sure about the R6. I heard that it doens't perform well until the upper 10K RPM, making it not so street friendly, which is what I'll be riding it for. Is this true? I'll be getting this or the Honda CBR600RR. Thanks
