Default Where is the engine number on a Yamaha R6 engine?

I dont think the engine number is the same as the VIN, but im not sure. I know the DMV checked it on the bike, but I cant seem to find it.

The VIN # and the engine numbers are always different. The VIN # is used for vehicle identification, not the engine #Engine #s are usually on the top of the crankcase next to the clutch cover (right side of engine). The VIN # is located on the steering head pipe (very front of the frame behind the forks) and can be viewed from the right.
