Wink Can I add Crankcase oil?

I jsut bought a 1990 Vulcan 1500 and I think I need to add Crankcase oil. Do I add it to the back axel where it says "Oil"? And if so, what type of oil? I don't have a manual and can't find one either. Also, it is dripping some kind of liquid onto the exhaust right under the oil level thingy. Doesn't look like oil more like a transmission oil??? help me please.
