I am a Florida licensed automobile insurance adjuster. I get this same question dozens of time every week. The coverage in Florida which pays for your personal medical bills is called No Fault and is also known as Personal Injury Protection or PIP.Under the Florida No Fault Statute (FS 627.736), a motorcycle does not meet the definition of a motor vehicle and, therefore, cannot be insured for Florida No Fault (aka Personal Injury Protection/PIP benefits). The definition (627.732) from the statute is as follows:"627.732 Definitions.--As used in ss. 627.730-627.7405, the term:...(3)"Motor vehicle"means any self-propelled vehicle with four or more wheels which is of a type both designed and required to be licensed for use on the highways of this state..."As a motorcycle does not have four or more wheels, it does not meet the definition of a motor vehicle under the Florida No Fault Statute (FS 627.736).Although a motorcycle does not meet the definition of a motor vehicle for No Fault (aka Personal Injury Protection/PIP) benefits, you are required to carry liability coverage on the bike. Additionally, you can also purchase collision, comprehensive and underinsured motorist benefits. You can read the applicable Florida statute in it's entirety at the following link:
