Default motorcycle insurance?

i'm considering getting a 2001 honda shadow 1100, and what im wondering is this: about how much could i expect to pay for insurance? i am 22 years old, i live in wichita kansas, i have never had any moving violations, and this will be my first bike. im not sure if any of that info is relevant or not, but any feedback would be very appreciated. gracias!

contact local motorcycle shops for references on insurance companies that offer motorcycle policies in your state. Call them and ask for a quote.Note - Some companies will give you a discount if you take the safety class.

Off topic for a moment, an 1100cc bike seems a bit big to me for a starter bike. Maybe it's just me.You can call a few places and they can give you a quote over the phone. Your age and driving record will certainly play into the cost. I insured my 19 year old son to drive an old 550 bike (liability only) and it cost about $150 per year. He had passed a motorcycle safety course which earned a discounted rate.I strongly suggest taking the MSF (motorcycle safety foundation) riders safety course. It will cost $200 or so for a 2.5 day course of class and actual riding instruction. In NE, passing the course will allow you to get your motocycle endorsement without having to take a riding test at the DMV. Ask around at any motorcycle shop or call your local college to find the location near you.

I agree that that's a big starter bike. Start with an 800 at most depending on your size. I'm a fairly big guy and started on a large four cylinder 750. Even that was a bit scary the first few times I was out on it. It will probably cost quite a bit to insure such a big bike (even a cruiser like that beauty) for a starter bike especially. And I second taking the Motorcycle Course. If you take a state sponsored course its usually fairly inexpensive and well worth the training.
