Default Registering a bike on a family members name

I am having debates with a couple of my friends about the subject.

Basically, can you get away with registering a bike on lets say your mom's name (given that she has an m) and also getting insurance under her name, and you riding the motorcycle.

What would happen if you get stopped by the cops?

What would happen if you get into an accident?

From my vague recollection i recall that you have to be on the insurance policy if you live under the same roof?

You do have to be on the policy and the rates will be charged in accordance to the 'highest risk' rider in the house!

You have to be named on the policy in order to ride the bike. If you are named on the policy (as the primary or secondary rider), then you are covered by the insurance company, and will have no problems from the cops or if you are in an accident.

You have to be named on the policy in order to ride the bike.

close, you pay for 'uninsured rider' fee on your ins. so then anyone with an mclass and your permission can ride it.

What you're suggesting is a "Material Misrepresentation" and is grounds for an ab initio policy cancellation. This means you could find yourself with no coverage for your motorcycle, your injury and no coverage for liability (one of the rare instances you may find yourself without liabilty coverage), not good if you've killed someone.

What may also be even more of a surprise to most people is that this is also fraud as defined by the Criminal Code of Canada. The "valuable security" you are defrauding the insurance company out of is the correct premium they are entitled too.

Finally, when you do get into an accident your insurance company will surely investigate who the primary driver of this motorcycle is.

The bottom line, it's not worth lying to your insurer. You'll get exactly what you deserve.

I think your mom would be a fool to let you do this. If you get into an accident and hurt someone it's her insurance that will be messed up for a long time.
