1979 cr125 serial numbers

Hi, I am new to this forum. I am looking at a 1979 cr125r (actually talking to a guy about one, have not seen it yet). I do not know the serial number, but should the engine and frame match? I know that the older CT70 minibikes don't have matching serial numbers, but should the elsinores?
