Can you tell me about the 1992 Suzuki GS500?

I found a 1992 Suzuki GS500 for $1000. The only thing it needs is a battery. Can anyone tell me about this bike? I'm 6'0"and weigh just about 230. At the moment I'll just use it for fun rides and going to work but in August I'll need it to drive to Ohio and back to Michigan about once a month. Could the bike make it that far comfortably with me on it? What kind of gas mileage could I expect from this bike since that is the reason I'm buying a motorcycle? If anyone knows alot about these bikes I would greatly appreciate it. Or if you have any suggestions about other bikes I could try then I'm open to ideas. I only have $2000 at the moment and I don't want to finance a bike because I can't afford full coverage on a bike.

Can anyone help me out with this?
