Motorcycle insurance in wa state?
My husband just purcahsed a motorcyle a week ago and he financed it and we are wondering if he has to have insurance on it? We live in WA state...at the dealership they told us that you don't have to have it, but that just doesn't sound right to me since it's financed. They said you don't have to have it as in at all---not like you don't have to have it from us or anything like that--they said you can ride w/o it. If you do have to have it (i think you do) how long do you have to get it if it's your first bike?My thought was more so that honda financial wants to make sure the bike is covered in case something happens to it since it's not paid off...Just so everyone else knows the answer is:In WA state you do not have to carry motorcycle insurance by state law. However, weather or not the lender requires it is listed in the contract...for Honda financial it states that you must carry to have it insured against, left, vandilism and damage. It also says if you do not get insurance the seller can (but is not obligated to)[--it says that in () on the contract] provide insurance for you. The seller is the dealership and we spoke to them and they said they don't force anyone to, just know if it gets destroyed you still have to make the payments! Obviously we are getting insurance either way to be smart and safe. However, we can get the realistic coverage we want instead of high full coverage because of the above facts. Thank you for all the answers!
