How to buy motorcycle exhaust?

I'm a pretty new rider so bare with me if these are all stupid questions.I have a 08 Yamaha FZ 6 and I want to get a new exhaust for it. First off how do I know if the exhaust will work on my bike? Does most exhaust work for most bikes or only certain types? And what would be a good exhaust for a FZ6?

just google( 08 FZ 6 exhaust) most pipes are different, but their are several different manufacturers making pipes for each kind of bike so you will have a selection. google the brand of pipe to find reviews on them.
