Loud pipes (on a car or motorcycle) do not save lives, they only serve to make people mad. You just happen to be one that got caught.

It is legal for motorcycles to have loud pipes, its not legal for cars. The reasoning is that if a bike has loud pipes, a car is more likely to be able to hear it coming. Thus it is a safety feature, at least as far as the law is concerned.

As an bike owner I get royally pissed when a hear a Harley blasting down the street anytime. But at night, I get really pissed. (I get up at 5:30am)My neighbors, who don't ride, think motorcycles should be banned after 9pm like some towns have already done. Some people think all motorcycles should be banned as some towns have done as well./In my town, the ice cream guy can't ring his bell after 9pm.After 9pm the peace and quiet is broken only by loud motorcycles..When I worked in a shop, I would not pass a bike with modified pipes. The law is specific that a bike with out pipes installed to factory specs fail. Most pipes exceed the 70db limit by huge margins!A Harley ( I've owned hogs) with straight pipes is illegal everywhere and the people who ride them are just plain breaking the law,Crotch Rockets (and I have had one) with racing pipes don't belong on the street.Cops have better things to do then go after illegal bikes and cars.Like making sure they buy only the freshest coffee and donuts every day..A Loud exhaust keeps you from hearing danger, and causes you to grow tired sooner on long rides.A loud exhaust does not help drivers to hear you. It's way to hard to tell from what direction a noise is coming from while you are inside a car. What matters is that you drive your bike so they can see you at all times and that you drive ready to dodge..If the Stupid bike riders, keep driving stupidly, then the government will keep passing laws that abridge their right to ride.Wake me up at midnight again, and I will help get you off the road myself.

U.S. car insurance, one can find that the U.S. auto insurance does not mean minimum requirement of the country.
