Default Why is one of my motorcycles'exhaust much hotter than the other?

I am repairing a Honda CB 500T. After finally getting it started, I noticed one exhaust gets extremely hot; the other not so hot. There is a small amount of backfiring as I rev it up. Any assist would be appreciated.
