Who monitors if a training schools bikes are safe and up to standard for training. My thought is that training bikes should look clean and be well looked after. I understand about wear and tear, acident damage- but learners shouldnt have to ride a bike that is not (in my opinon)road worthy and looks like it was just bought from a scrap yard. My freinds have taken motorcycle training with a local school, but i was shocked to see n hear what poor condition the bikes are in.I pitty inocent people who ride these things. Most have no knowledge, understanding of motorcycles or what you should look 4 mechanically, so r easly'talked'around if they voice fears.-leaking oil from forks-poor handling due to forks,suspension,tyres,steering-bikes are filthy dirty and look battered- almost like a scrap yard.- brake pads worn to the metal-tyres to the limit- faulty electricals or things not working-various mechanical faults ranging from poor running to worn clutchesP.S If you think the new computerised MOT can not be cheated because its computerised...... THINK AGAIN!!.So then a training school with the help of a bent MOT station can become self governing on if and when repairs of school bikes are done.So some of you think a trainee should be gratful to learn on a public highway , on a machine that could be dangerous?... lolHow would you feel if you took driving lessons and the instructor arrived in a vehicle that had been in an accident n appeared to never been washed, say you comment on it and the instructor gives a plausable reason. Once on the road, you discover the true faults... poor brakes, slipping clutch, loose mirror, instruments that dont work, faulty electrical- oh and your told not to push too hard on the gear stick as it may come off in your hand- supose you would feel grateful for this kind instructor allowing you to learn in his banger!!.Just because these bikes get dropped and riden by aprox 4 trainees per day, is no excuse for neglect, poor maintence and the shoddy condition they are kept.Ive seen other training schools and their bikes are clean etcP.S: im a bike mechanic who has owned, rebuilt and riden bikes for MANY years!. So this isnt a naive learner talk

I think all the"Newbies"should be grateful there are places willing to sacrifice an otherwise ,perfectly good motorcycle to them to thrash ,drop and otherwise misuse.I have taught beginners to ride on my own bikes and know what'horror'a poor bike goes through.Instead of complaining and b!tching about it,appreciate the fact someone is willing to teach you squirrely beginners to ride. What a"Chick"always finding something to gripe about.

All ATB's (Approved Training Bodies) are overseen by the DSA (Driving Standards Agency). If you want to pass on your comments to them you can reach them atcbt@dsa.gsi.gov.uk (email)orStanley House56 Talbot StreetNottinghamNG1 5GUPhone: 0115 901 2595Fax: 0115 901 2600They will pass on the information to the relevant CBT manager for the region who will pay them a visit. Strictly speaking the DSA is responsible for ensuring the instructors are up to standard but I'm sure with a word in the right ear they could get the bikes sorted out as well!

i took a"learn to ride a motorcycle"course last summer. true, the bikes looked like they were abused, because they were. some were missing some of the lights and reflectors. the fenders were scraped. but the bikes were there for you to learn how to ride. they were not meant to be'road worthy'. the bikes did have good tires, brakes and ran well. i didn't have a problem with the condition of the bikes. i don't think any one else in the class did either. be glad someone was willing to let you wreck their bike, so you could be safer on the road latter. count your blessings, not your troubles.
