Default '85 Honda VT700C Shadow: Where does the air vent tube connect?

I just put a new engine in my Shadow, but can't find where the carburetor air vent tube connects. As a"vent"I thought it might simply hang free, but both ends are flared, so it's gotta connect somewhere! As you might imagine, the maintenance books and on line schematics have been NO HELP AT ALL!
