82 XV920J Virago rear tire rubs on swing arm

There does not appear to be any run-out on rear rim but tire is rubbing at left top of swing arm. When I installed new tire last year when I bought the bike, the tire was close to the swing arm but did not rub. On my previous 920 the free space between the tire and swing arm was only about 1/8 inch but never rubbed. My Haines notes the problem, warns to make sure tire clears the swing arm but offers no info on what to do if tire rubs. Anticipate I'll need new tire or...? There is no play in the swing arm and no play in wheel. Any body else have the problem or , better yet, the fix/

Check your alignment marks for the chain adjustment. It's easy to get the marks misaligned and thus cock the tire to one side.

Easy check, easy fix.
