So theres a motorcycle in my local CL listing its an 82 honda cv900F, the guy wants 450 for it but theres a few problems with it.
He says it runs it just needs a starter, and it has a loose rod in the 1st cylinder. The starter doesnt bother me any but the loose rod in the 1st cylinder does, does anyone know how much this would be to fix and how hard it would be? I have worked on scooters before but never a motorcycle and i just want a heads up before i jump on it. Thanks in advanced |

$450 for an 1982 japanese bike that needs a engine rebuid is a lil steep. Im not positive of the exact price of the parts but I would estimate $200 for just a gasket kit and rod bearing kit. Then you probably will need (atleast you should while its apart) to replace the
rings and may have other problems like stretched rod bolts. Then the starter is probably around $100-$150. If the rest of the bike is in pristine condition it may be worth it, but i doubt it and seeing how it has a loose rod bearing, it probably has high mileage. I would make him an offer it is in great shape other than the problems you describe, but i dont know if id pay $450 for it. Maybe $250-$300. Youll have at least $300-$350 in parts let alone if you pay someone to do it. That would probably run $400-$500 or more. If you only ended up with less than a grand in it after it is on the road you got an ok deal. It books for $1500 if a dealer is selling it in excellent condition and has a trade in value of $1000 in good condition. |
