I was taking notice at a few motorcycle cops today and immediately wondered why they would only wear their short-sleeved uniform shirts and not some type of protective motorcycle jacket.
I then figured that they are most likely wearing body armor under their shirts which would be some good protection in a fall, but wouldn't a full jacket with sleeves to protect the arms, elbows, shoulders and more durable pants make more sense for the job wear they may be in a high speed chase on their bike and an accident is possible.
I understand that these motorcycle cops are highly trained, but still.

I got no real answer, but, around here, at least, the motorcycle cops are NEVER gonna get into a high speed chase. Not that they couldn't go fast if they wanted to, but around here, their main job purpose seems to be traffic control and ticket writting. For that, I think they rarely chase anybody very far. PLUS, around here, if one cop gets to pull somebody over, they will (several of them) charge in to see whats happening, even on the most mundane common pull over. Especially if theres a girl gettin' pulled over.
They'll be 3 cop cars there in 2 minutes.

So,..I guess, maybe they will go jacketless till the day one of them sticks a three point landing while exicuting an unscheduled dismount. Then, they'll start going around in leather.

Well that explains it. George Clooney should've taken the Ponch and Jon Hi-Speed Illegal Passing Course, from their academy in Hollywood

Hi Speed pursuit **cough cough** maybe with the newer BMW and Honda bikes... I don't think Ponch and Jon could have gotten those KZ1000P's much over 110. I noticed a bit of wobble around that speed when I first got mine... 105 is still pretty stable but only on good road.

Does anyone offer police level rider traiing? It seem to me that would be worthwhile and prepare you for just about anything! Hell, I'm sure some cops would love teaching it!

ya know I too have wondered why with all the tech available for motorcyclist protection that the cops seem to wear little to none at all, The helmet is barely worthy of a low speed slide, the boots well they are fine but there is lighter, more breathable and better out there that could do the job alot better and no short sleeve shirt and slacks is gonna save your hide when ya lay it down....makes you wonder if when they are implementing the long arm of the law if they didn't just forget the gear in the budget

Jerry Palladino, Ride like a pro ,does teach the cops too.
His safety tapes and add are at www. ridelikeapro.com
I have seen him at bike events and bought several of his videos.
He teaches at his home from what I recall.
