Default The Different Riding Styles of Different Bikes?

I was just curious about the differences between different bikes. More specifically say a Ninja ZX-6R or CBR600RR and a Ducati Monster 695 or 696.

I've heard a little about how the ZX-6R and 600RR have a lot different riding style than the Monsters but was looking for further explanation. I also wanted to know about more of the differences in these bikes.

I'm a newer rider and am looking at getting a new bike but wanna do some research before I get one, I'm having a hard time figuring out the "look" I like more and I would never wanna base a purchase soley off of that so I figure I'll let the facts and information guide me. :D
I really like the look of the Monsters but wouldn't purchase one if the performance wasn't there as much as I feel it is with the other two bikes I listed.

Thanks!

How "newer" of a rider are you?

All those bikes will outperform you as a rider.

I think the Monsters are more comfortable, slightly more upright. I find the ZX6R to be terribly uncomfortable, the CBR600 is a little better but still, none of these bikes are made for comfort.

I've ridden dirt bikes and quads quite a bit and I've also taken a BRT class here in Oregon.

I just wanted some information on how they differ from each other.

Most sportbikes are real comfortable, if you have 34 inch arms and 14 inch legs.

Me, I've never been able to put my feet in my back pockets, so I tend toward bikes with more upright seating positions.

The schneid is right, any of these bikes will send you to the hospital if you don't go easy. Bikes are so smooth and fast these days, you can get in over your head with a frightening quickness.

Be careful whatever you get, any bike can hurt you, some just do it easier than others.

But how does the Monster's riding style differ from that of the zx-6r? lol I've heard people talk about it a little and just want more of an explanation.

Are you referring to the seating position? A bike doesn't really have a riding style, riders do. The Monster has a little more upright seating position that the hard-edged sportbikes. More comfortable in my opinion.

I think what he is looking for is the explanation of the seating position. With the CBR and the Ninja you will find the foot pegs "behind" the seat so that you are forced to lean forward on the gas tank and put more weight on your wrists just to be able to shift and brake. This lowers your center of gravity and makes the bike much more "flickable" through the turns. But this is also much less comfortable. This is why they are called supersports, because they are made for the track and definitely not for comfort. The Monster will have a more upright sitting position with the pegs more underneath the rider so that you will be sitting like you would be in a dining room chair. Make sense?

Yeah, that helps a lot. What about the engine type? Power? Torque? How do they differ and how do they change the way the bike rides? For instance, I've heard the zx-6r and cbr's and such bikes are straight up quick! but that the Monster packs more of a power ride and that it is better in cornering?

This is another way that the classes differ. You will find the CBR and Ninja have much more sensitive throttles (meaning you have to move them very little to get a lot of power). This can be dangerous for new riders who have not developed good throttle control. You also have to look at the dyno charts for the bikes, the inline 4 cylinder bikes (like the CBR) will have a much steeper power curve, meaning the power builds up very quickly as the engine speeds up. This again can be dangerous to a new rider. I am not familiar with the Monster's power curve but I would assume it would be a bit gentler than a CBR 600 or similar, and the peak HP or torque is probably at a much lower RPM, but I don't know for sure.

You have to look at all of these factors to decipher the overall character of the bike. A twitchy throttle, low center of gravity, and aggressive riding position can equal a lot of fun around canyon roads and the track but might not be the most comfortable for cross country rides. Then you have giant cruisers that a like sitting on a couch they are so comfortable, and they weigh a lot more too! And everything in between.

Notice that I said all of these CAN be dangerous to a new rider. I feel that someone with good common sense and discipline can just as easily learn on a CBR 600 as on a Rebel 250. I chose to learn on a Ninja 250 just because I didn't have the confidence to start on anything bigger. To each his own. Buy what you love and enjoy it.
