Default Take the MSF?

I'm coming back to motorcycle riding, after 25 years.

I've already got some miles under my belt on my new (used) bike, and am beginning to regain some competence.

Still, I'm thinking about taking the MSF basic course. I've never taken it before.

I know that they will cover a lot of stuff I haven't practiced or seen before, but I suspect they will also cover a lot of stuff I'm already familiar with.

Locally, the course is $250, involves three hours on Thursday & Friday evening, and pretty much all day on Saturday and Sunday.

I'm concerned I'm going to be a bit bored, and forget to pay attention when they get to the stuff that's important to me.

Is there another kind of course out there that might be a better option? Something between "beginner" and "advanced" would be nice.

WM

In my MSF course, there were several veteran riders taking the course. None of them regretted taking it.

Dude, if 92% of all accidents involve people who never took the class then that right there makes it a no brainer for me!

I took it already and if I were you, I would take it and get them to iron out all of your bad habits that you may have picked up over the years as well as reinforcing the good habits you may already have.

Is the place that charges $250 the only one in reasonable distance? The price varies quite a bit around here from county to county. $110, $135, $149, at the Community Colleges, $265 at the HD dealer.

I've been away from riding less time than you (15 years), I'll be taking the class Aug. 1. IMO More training is certainly a good thing. I plan on taking the advanced class later on.

Short answer... Yep!

I finished the course a week ago and was the only rider there with no experience (its required in FL for endorsement now) The old heads, some with 30+ years, had nothing but good things to say about it. The first few drills seemed pretty dull but if nothing else got me used to the specific bike I was on.

A quick look on the MSF site shows there may be another option for me, fewer days and less money, and not HD.

Thanks,

WM

There is never a boring moment during the MSF course. Also if you take it through any dealership it's going to be more expensive. That's the way they roll. Find a cheap class near you, take it and have fun! You wont regret it.
