Do all of the Akra exhausts, slip ons and full systems, come with a carbon fiber muffler clamp? What kind of durability does this clamp have? I ask because I've always heard that the sunlight's UV rays can be damaging to CF. Does Akra offer an alternative clamp? Just wondering... I'd hate to spend the $$$ for an Akra and then have something as simple as the mufler clamp fail due to being exposed to the sunlight over and over again.
All replies are welcome and appreciated. Scott |

I had an akra on my R1 for a long time, no issues.
No one i know with an Akra has had issues with it ever... sadly cant say the same about some metal ones other people have had on other systems :shrug |

All the Akra owners I've seen have the CF one's that come with it. Never heard a problem or and issue with it. I had one for 2 years before I thrashed my bike. No probs at all.
Don't worry about it... |

No mine did not come with the CF hanger. I use the stock mounting location, ie the passenger peg.
More importantly, I would think twice if you are thinking on doing an Akra slipon. |

I prefer the CF clamp because it doesn't scratch the can. I know, I know...all the others use rubber boots, but I've seen quite a few tear and shift.
As for your fear of failure sunlight discolors the CF, it doesn't make it weaker. Akra is a premium brand...you will not be disappointed. |

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. Ian, I agree with you that an Akra slip on is not the best choice-from a cost standpoint. The do look nice, but then again the extra $$$ is not worth it to me. I'm still on the fence about whether to go to a full system or not. I really don't ride it that hard. Not nearly as hard as some people do (or say they do-everyone is an awesome rider and always keeps their bikes on the boil in cyberspace, right?).
This may or may not be embarassing to say, but I rarely run the bike over 6,000 RPM. I mainly ride the bike to relax and have a good time. Which for me is riding how I'm comfortable. I can almost predict some of the potential responses to this post: 1. Dude, why are you riding like a pu$$y, 6,000 RPM? 2. I thrash my bike always, anyone who doesn't do the same is a wu$$y. 3. You owning that bike and not riding it hard is a waste of a good bike. To that I say this::redflip It's my bike & I'll ride it how I want to. Do you jump on people driving 'Vettes and Porsches if they aren't speeding all over the place? Anyway....I'm thinking that I'd get good results with Ivan's needles and a decent slip on, like Hindle or Leo. Others agree or disagree? I'd like some input from you people. Thanks in advance, Scott |

You should really operate your bike at the full RPM range every now and again. It's sposed to be ragged man!
I had a full ah-CROP-o-vitch on my bandit1200. I had it for about 12,000 miles and had bought it from a guy with about 20,000 on it on his bandit. Packing seemed fine and the pipe looked great! (though a little weathered from all the rain and snow around here. :( |

The packing in mine is GONE!! Dam thing is obnoxious to me now, I just don't want to spend the money to fix it.
Being that you don't ride hard or stay well below the top of the rev range, keep the EXUP. It will make the bike miserable for you without it. It irks me alot of times. If I had two bikes each for different things the R1 would be great but being I need it to fill all things right now it gets irritating to have to slip the hell out of the clutch or be very sensitive to throttle until 4,000 rpms to ride smoothly on a sedate cruise. If I'm hammering on it then I won't even notice and the extra power is well worth it. |
