The new Ducati 1098 Superbike was voted ‘Most Beautiful Motorcycle of the Show’ at the 2006 EICMA show in Milan. Over 24,000 people voted in the survey hosted by the Italian motorcycle magazine ‘Motociclismo’. The results obviously held a great amount of discord as the 1098 won with only 30% of the votes. The show draws 530,000 people and is a huge event for Europeans. Many new bikes were introduced there this year such as the Moto Guzzi 940 Custom, Aprilia NA 850 Mana, and the Aprilia’s SL 750 Shiver. Ducati had actually been hoping to save the release of the 1098 for the show but it was leaked out earlier. However, they did release the 1098 in Tricolore (the colors of the Italian flag, red, white, and green). The Ducati ‘Tricolore’ tradition began in 1985 with the stunning 750 F1 and then continued with the limited edition 851. The latest ‘Tricolore’ is a 1098 S with the additional features of frame and wheels finished in traditional ‘racing gold’ colours. A power-increasing 102 dB Termignoni racing muffler kit with dedicated ECU is supplied with the Tricolore.
