Chicane

A series of "esses" or turns on a race track. Chicanes can be a part of the original track, or can be created, using cones and hay bales, to slow the riders down for safety. Chicanes can be added to a track for the purpose of slowing down the speed. They are generally added on to a straight section of the track. A chicane is really only one turn but, because of its placement off to one side of the straight, it becomes three turns.
