A racer in the 1930s and '40s, and though better known as an Indian devotee, Spiegelhoff was a committed Harley rider in the 1930s who worked as an inspector on the Milwaukee assembly line. But he switched allegiance when the Harley-Davidson racing department refused to make the changes he wanted to his bike. So he left his job, bought an Indian and scored several race wins, notably at Daytona in 1947. He even took on an Indian dealership in Milwaukee, right on Harley's home turf.
