Measuring Float Height

There are three (3) ways of measuring the float height on modern Motorcycles. When checking float height, be sure that the float needle spring is not compressed.

On carburetors with one-piece floats, the float height is measured from the gasket fitting surface (with the gasket removed) to the top of the float. Be sure that each float measures equally. This is specified as method "A."

On carburetors with independent floats, the float height is measured from the main jet base to the top of the float tongue. Be sure that both arms of the float tongue measure equally. This is specified as method "B". Method "C" measures from the top of the float tongue to the float bowl gasket base. Check the service manual for the correct method to use.
